The Washington Brant Foundation supports the history and artform of waterfowl decoy carving as part of our education mission. Every year the foundation sponsors a festival and decoy carving contest called the Puget Sound Open.

We've made some interesting changes to the rules and available contests this year.  In some cases we've eliminated some rules to allow more flexibility and creativity with the carver. For the working class decoys, we're also adding some strict distance for judging requirements in an effort to embrace and support the roots of the working decoy.So be sure to check them out!

Some of the contest's we are featuring this year include:

Brant Division

Our famous Brant division contest. One of our most popular events. Compete with regional and national carvers for prizes including money and cool custom WBF embroidered Filson gear. 

Open Working Decoys

This year we have combined the three open class categories (Diver, Puddler, and Confidence) into one division. The best of each class will compete for the best of show title. * New working decoy class rules apply!

WBF Masters Division

A no rules contemporatry contest. Carve to the best of your ability for the the chance to win cool, personalized Filson gear. 

WBF “Top Gun” Division 

Dedicated to the memory of Jay Koetje. Working class rules apply.
Carving will be a pintail (drake or hen). 
1st place WBF “Top Gun” Division is a purchase award


2015 Washington State Ducks Unlimited Decoy Contest

Just like last year, the Washington Brant Foundation will be also be host to the 2015 Washington State Ducks Unlimited Decoy Contest. Contemporary class rules apply.

This year's carving will be a drake ruddy duck in spring plumage. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries are purchase awards and will be raffled off at the Washington State Ducks Unlimited Banquet. 2015 Foam Decoy Championship

Contemporary rules apply as you compete with the best and most creative foam decoy carvers across the country.
